The Process

In this lecture we ran through the processes involved at every stage of the design process. We looked at business elements that need to be considered in order to be successful in this industry.

We began by looking at the fundamentals that characterise effective designers: the aspects of personality that are critical to success - including clear and timely communication and general politeness, manners and courtesy.

We also considered contractual issues, terms and conditions and the business and project management aspects of a designers' role at every stage of the design process, from getting work, through communication on the job, through gathering and analysing feedback, through getting signoff at the end of a project.

While many web development firms have fantastic technical expertise, what sets the top-notch organisations apart is the ability to accurately manage the planning and development process.

As recommended at today's lecture, Nico McDonald's What is Web Design? develops design principles that will be as relevant to future technological developments as they are today. It's the perfect book to help you with your MPP.
