An introduction to Information Design
This week's lecture will introduce the DES311 Information Design module.
During the lecture we will provide an overview of the module, indicating the deliverables, including the weekly homeworks, Research Diary, Creative Experimentation, appropriate referencing techniques, learning outcomes and short introductions from the teaching staff.
Homework 1.1
Your first homework is to research the Flash Card you have been given. At least one of your references should be from an offline source such as a book or magazine and must use the Harvard Referencing (Guide produced by Anglia Ruskin University) method. You are free to write about anything that you feel constitutes your Flash Card, for example Apple could be the fruit, the computer company, the record label the Beatles formed etc or you are free to pick another word beginning with the letter for example A could be Airplane, Astronaut, Alligator etc.
Your research should be accompanied by an illustration of your Flash Card that is to be developed in Adobe Illustrator. Your research should be presented as an HTML Page linked from your homepage and you should present your findings using:
- Titles
- Sub Titles
- Range of headings & sub headings
- Paragraphs
- Lists
- Quotations
- Image Captions
- Tabular Data
We will give you the templates required to supply us with your Homework, Research and Creative Experimentation diaries. Each week you are required to maintain a Research diary and a Creative Experimentation page and all Homework should be linked from the appropriate title on the home page. The templates we have provided are unstyled, please feel free to begin styling these pages using CSS.
