Week 9 - Branding

Branding

Today's lecture covered branding which as we saw covers not just the logo or corporate identity a company defines itself with but the entire ethos of the organisation and how it would like to be seen by its target audience.

Many major organisations specialise in branding and brand development some worth researching are:

Wolff Olins

Pentagram

Future Brand

Interbrand

Minale Tattersfield

Landor

Under Consideration

David Airey has gone to great lengths to take visitors to his site through the thought processes involved in the production of some of the corporate identities he has created. Check out the link to his other site, Logo Design Love below.

Here is the link to most of Friday's lecture Branding This won't mean too much without having previously attended the lecture and should only be used as a reminder of what was covered.

Project – Personal Brand

Personal Brand

An identity is the unique character of a company or individual - a combination of reputation, name, culture, manner and values. Identity design represents these qualities and in doing so adds something to them.

Project Brief

You will be required to research, and create an identity based on your own INITIALS that communicates to the peer group your personality and identity in graphic form. This should be in the form of an Illustrator vector file.

Initial research should be in the library, journals and magazines; Creative Review, Graphik, Typo, Baseline, Eye, etc. Do not confine yourself to design culture, look everywhere for inspiration.

This project, while considering how people will respond to your interpretation, is also about taking risks – being experimental but being directed by thorough research.

Research and visual development is vital for university work. Show evidence of how you developed your project including designs you do not use and including references and notes to inspiration and influences. You cannot get top grades without this.
