A History of Communication Design Part One

Today's lecture looked at the history of communication design from around the turn of the 20th century up to the 1960s.

Having a solid knowledge of the history of this area will help you develop as a designer. It will allow you to work in on your projects whether at university or at work with a rich palette of information to draw inspiration from.

A two hour lecture will only scratch the surface of what we would like to cover (especially when the equipment, or lecturer has a meltdown!). There is a multitude of information available in this area. The best place to start is obviously the library but to start you all off here are a few useful sites worth checking up on.

Project 2 - A typographic journey

As promised here is the brief for your second project. As discussed we want you to make a typographic record of your journey from the moment you wake up until you arrive at the university.

Your final submission should be a collection of typographic images of your journey brought together as a single JPG. Here is an example from one of last year's students:
